Never Rains in SoCal? NOT!!!

Malibu, California

Rain, 60mph winds, Thunder and Lightening

I'm writing this around 1am on Friday as I am having another bout of insomnia.  Professor, my cat, is sound asleep by my feet, Yuki is right next to me on one of my pillows and Skipper is snoring while sleeping on his favorite chair.  I can hear the fierce winds and also the rain drops hitting the window like bullets.

Crazy weather in SoCal this week although winter is "rainy" season in this part of the world.  However, 4 fierce storms in a row?   We had a very bad one about 5 years ago where I lost electricity several hours each day and could not leave Malibu because of the landslides that blocked both North and South Pacific Coast Highway and the canyon roads were too dangerous to drive.  The ones we had this week were not as bad but did make driving treacherous so I am stuck in my house all week. So in addition to trying to get up to speed on my new job -which I'm already behind after only 2 weeks on the job- and the never ending unpacking and looking for my things, I watched TV.  One show that I'm getting addicted to is Criminal Minds.  But I think it is one of the 3 causes of my insomnia.  It is a crime drama and one episode was about a stranger who breaks into people's homes where only woman live and rapes and murders them.  So that made me double check that all my doors and windows are locked and reminded me that I need to get a land line phone soon cuz ATT Wireless sucks big time.  Can't get a connection 80% of the time!!    Luv my iphone but can't use it for mobile calls.  Go figure.  Anyways, I know I should not watch it because it does scare me, but can't stop!  And the show made me realize that I'm not in safe Tokyo anymore so need to be more careful.  So I have set my DVR to record it every time it is on along with my other favorite dramas and one reality show – Project Runway.  So happy to be able to see it again.   While in Tokyo, I was able to see Damages, 24,  Lost, CSI, House, Law and Order via iTunes (and yes, I paid for it) but not Project Runway and Criminal Minds.

Anyhow, it is now approaching 2am so I think I'll just post some photos I took and try and get some sleep.  The last storm is now passing through so I am so looking forward to sunshine this weekend.  And I have good vibes about this weekend as it starts Friday evening where Amy (Skipper and Yuki's auntie) is hosting a welcome dinner for me.  It will be SO GOOD to see my friends from work again.  And another early dinner with Susan and Ray from New York and my BFF, Eunice is coming from Korea.  We are going to have brunch together.  Can't wait to catch up with her.  Good night!

Yuki kept busy during the rains trying to coax Professor to become a friend of hers.

And she succeeded.  She now is trying to get Professor to play fetch with her.  That is not going too well.

Until she gets Professor to play fetch with her, she plays fetch with me but only on the bed.

But when it came to Project Runway time, we both watched the show while Professor and Skipper went to sleep.

Tuesday January 19 around 630am.   No rain between Storm no.1 and no.2 so took the dogs for a walk along Westward Beach.  We saw a sad scene – a beached dolphin.  I called the lifeguards and they picked it up.  It was dead.  Very sad.  Speaking of dolphins, I hope the folks of Taiji has stopped for good the killing of dolphins (The Cove is STILL not being shown in Japan)

It was a grey and yucky morning

But some brave surfers went out to try and catch a few of the big ones.  If you look closely, you will see two heads.

Thursday January 21 around 5pm:  Another lull between storm no. 3 and storm no. 4 and it happened to be during sunset.  So took the dogs for a walk again along Westward Beach.  Winds were very strong and the clouds were moving very fast
