Sunny day after a snowy day
Back in January, I decide to take advantage of a long weekend go visit my BFF Eunice in Korea. I haven't visiited Korea since she took the job at Ewha University and VP of International relations.
I arrived on a cold blistery Saturday morning. After dropping off my bags and catching up a bit, we decided to take a walk along the art district of Korea and then visit a historic are of Seoul.
The art scene was amazing and very happening. Galleries were everywhere showcasing local artists. There were also some very chi chi galleries displaying very expensive artwork from famous artists from all over the world.
Not only are there galleries but lots of boutiques carrying local designer wear at reasonable prices. I loved the many narrow alleyways some barely wide enough for two people to go through where small cute shops and cafes can be found.
We stopped at a famous Korean tea shop and had delicious date tea and rice cake in hot adzuki bean soup. Delicious! The recipes are the secret recipes of the family and they have been doing business for over 50 years from the same place!
Next stop historic district of Seoul: The houses below were built by the Japanese during the Japanese occupation for Japanese officers
And right around the corner were beautiful traditional Korean homes. People actually live in them and are asked to continue the preservation.
We were able to go into one (had to pay 10$!). It was very interesting. The owner is a decorator and she did a good job modernizing the kitchen and bathrooms. They really live in the basement that is modern and use the upstairs for tours.
Eunice and I walked for about 6 hours in total. And all the sights were around her apartment. It was cold but lots of fun. I'd love to spend more time in Seoul just to look for art.
