Gorgeous Dry Summer Day
Hello from Mexico City! This year, Sandra and I decided on a low key adventure and go to Mexico City as we both LOVE Mexico especially the culture and people. Mexico City is so happening from a culinary and cultural PoV,so this is where we are celebrating our birthdays.
Sandra arrived Friday nite and I arrived Saturday at 530am. As the flight from NYC was only 4 hours, needless to say I did not get much sleep. Sandra also had issues sleeping so has been up since 3am. So we both were pretty tired today. But, the nice folks at the Intercontinental Hotel in Mexico City, which I highly recommend by the way because of the efficient and professional staff upgraded my room so we were able to get club lounge access. Which meant we enjoyed nice cups of cappucino and a full breakfast before embarking on our first adventure.
By the time we got our act together it was almost noon. On our agenda for today was to visit the Saturday art market and Roma – a very trendy neighborhood in the city. We were going to walk, but our concierge strongly recommended we take a car service as a) its safe and b) easiest way to get around the city. And good thing we did take the car service as our driver Felix was great and made our day more enjoyable.
First stop was the Saturday market, where many artists showcased their paintings around the park. There is also a building which is home to many artisans which sell their works from ceramics to gorgeous jewelry. So tempting but I'm trying not to buy anything as I have no more space in my apartment! Good thing I was tired as I did not have the mojo to shop. I did however, enjoy the workman ship of the beautiful pieces of unique jewelry, ceramics and paintings that I saw.

Next stop was Roma. Felix dropped us off in front of the Roma Market where one can eat fabulous food from many of the food vendors there. It reminded me of hawker food stalls in Singapore. Sandra and I stuffed ourselves with food from 2 different stalls. The food was just delicious. We had pozal, tamales and a tostada from one stall and flautas and tlayuda. Everything was made from scratch and so reasonable. I think the total amount from both places including beers and soft drinks was about 20 USD!

Because we were so stuffed, we then did a one hour walk around Roma. Roma is not only hip and up and coming but also none to be the dog capital of Mexico City and we soon found out why.

After exhausting ourselves, we met Felix at our pick up point who drove us back to the hotel. While driving back we went through the largest park in Mexico City which is home to many world famous museums. Can't wait to visit some of them.
I am now finishing this post and then at 6pm, we will go to the Club Lounge for a drink and snack and then have an early night! Can't wait for tomorrow's adventures which is packed.
