The Tale of the Lonely Momiji

November-December, 2009

Fall going to Winter

Fall in Japan is gorgeous because the infamous Japanese Maple trees(Momiji) turn a bright red that completely changes the scenery of mountainous Japan.  While photographing some of the foliage in my neighborhood, I noticed a young lonely maple tree perched alone in a space in a wall specially created for the tree.  Since it was young, the branches were thin but they draped in front of a cherry tree and looked so beautiful in the morning sunlight. I decided to chronicle the transformation of this lonely but beautiful tree.

October 24, 2009 around 6am:  My first photo of the tree against the dark bark of the cherry tree.

November 2, 2009 around 6am again:  More leaves started changing their colors.

December 13, 2009:  One lonely leaf left on the lonely tree after a night of rain.  The tree is now ready to rest until spring.

The lonely momiji perched in the cubby hole in the wall.  I hope I can come back to Tokyo next fall to see how it is doing.
