Santa Monica Farmers Market

Malibu, California

Sunny!

I had to take my Prius to Toyota of Santa Monica for the 5000mile tune up and "recall" maintenance last Wednesday.  I showed up at 653am, was first in line when they opened at 7am and thought I'd be out of there by 8am.  But noooooo,   the supposedly one hour max maintenance was to take 3 hours!  So what to do?  Free Wi-Fi at the waiting room will not be up until around 830am, so I decided to get some exercise for a change and walk around Santa Monica.  Well, lucky me, cuz the Santa Monica Farmer's market was happening on Arizona street.  I totally forgot about it!  This farmer's market is one of the most famous ones in California and many of the top chefs of LA get their produce from the market.  It is held every Wednesday and Saturday.

As I got there early, not many of the stands were up (official opening time is 830am).  But I was able to buy a few things for the weekend including fresh onions, celery, tomatoes and arugula.  The Malibu Farmers Market is to start this Sunday so will have to check that out too!  Below are some photos of the Santa Monica market that I took with my iphone.  I LUV farmers markets!!

Because it was not "officially" open, few people were at the market.  Around 9am the place gets packed!

Gorgeous artichokes. I've been afraid of them.  I really need to learn how to cook them as it is one of my fav veggies.

And last but not least, Japanese veggies.  A third generation Japanese American family sells Japanese veggies and is very popular.
